2015: Where I'm At Now

So... apparently it's pretty much March. What!?!!

I feel like, thus far, I've done an alright job of spending less. I'm buying a lot less at work and putting a lot more thought into every purchase, but I can definitely do a better job of it! I see opportunities for myself with groceries and "essentials" (face products, makeup, hair stuff, etc.). I need to pay more attention to prices and sales and anticipate my needs so I can shop around and pick things up during sales.

As far as meal prepping goes, I can feel a difference in myself when I meal prep and when I don't. Food from local shops just doesn't taste as good as something I've made myself! Plus, not spending $12 on a mediocre sandwich feels awesome. I think I need to meal prep foods that give me a slight amount of wiggle room in preparation instead of eating the exact same thing for lunch 5 days a week. Right now I'm testing out salsa chicken, which I'm going to use for taco salads, tacos, maybe on a baked potato. Again, I definitely see room for improvements as far as this goes. Live and learn, eh?

An update from my 2014 resolution is that well, I'm still not drinking soda. I mean, I have one every now and then, but it's just necessary spending and calories so I keep it minimal. Give me iced coffee over a Coke any day!

I'm trying really hard to continue my trend of productivity on my days off. Since I've pretty much given up shopping, I spend less time physically out shopping but also time spent on my laptop online shopping. Over the past month it's just been so hard to get myself to clean something extra (tidying up my room isn't a big deal because I just cannot tolerate it being a mess on the days I work), do my laundry, run anything but the most urgent errands. I would much rather sit in bed and watch some TV on my laptop... Forcing myself to do laundry (can't run out of jeans for work!) and meal prepping has helped - even little bits of productivity feel amazing and get me motivated to do more. But, getting to that point of productivity is the hardest part.

I'm feeling better about the state of my wardrobe but I do think I'll need to do another clean out and purge soon. I keep flipping past items I haven't worn in a long time but love. Maybe it's time to let them go...

I wrote about this on my Tumblr last week. 2015 needs to be the year of "me". The year of me being selfish, because I can be. No boyfriend, no roommates, currently no rent/car payments, just me, myself, and my job. So I have to focus on making myself the best I can be this year. Once I love me, am happy with me, I can worry about finding love and all of that other "grown-up" stuff. I guess that's just what has come down the road for me... focusing on me.

Next month I want to work on spending (at the grocery store and Target, mostly), setting up some financial things my dad has been nagging me about, and being more productive earlier in the day on my days off.

Let's see how it goes.

2014: A Recap

So it has been a while.

2014 was an eventful year in many, many ways. I can see and perceive many changes in myself, mentally and physically. A break from "blogging" (more like attempting to blog, in my case, as I was not regular in blogging by any means...) was nice because it gave me time to reflect on these changes and re-evaluate what I want to do here. I'm still undecided, so I think I'm going to take things as they come.

One thing I've realized over the past couple of months is that most of the blog world that I was familiar with really did not agree with me, my values, my ideals. Photoshopping bodies into ridiculous parodies of oneself, extreme amounts of makeup and hair extensions, wearing cheap clothes for posts simply because it was a way to make money as opposed to sharing something one loves with the world, obnoxious bubblegum pink lipstick, going to any length to work in a referral/reward link to readers.... Ugh. It makes me sick to think of these things. One's individuality is completely lost when trying to keep up with the Joneses, and most of the blogs I came in contact with in 2014 all look the same. It's boring. In a nutshell, I did not and do not want to participate in that. I want to be me, do me, even if it means that in a year I am still the only one reading these posts. And that's okay if I am.

So, upon completion of my reflection of blogging, I'm going to recap, in the simplest of forms, 2014.

2014:

There was a lot of flying back and forth to Minnesota/northern Wisconsin to see my boyfriend.

A trip to New Orleans, which should have been more enjoyable than it was.

My gramma fell in her house and broke her leg. She had to have surgery and stay in a nursing home. The roles in my family really shifted during this time. I spent a lot of time hanging out with my grampa since he was home alone.

A Valentine's Day spent alone because schedules couldn't coordinate.

A breakup.

I helped close/reopen one of the biggest stores in my market, which was really cool.

A big gesture - a trip to see me, out of the blue - to attempt to repair what was broken.

Things worked out for a while, trips down here, trips up there. Going to the zoo, going to a wedding or two, just trying to spend time together.

I turned 23.

I became the right hand person for rollouts at my store. Looking back, having the confidence in myself and knowing that others had that same confidence in me was an incredible feeling and amount of freedom.

I became really good friends with a co-worker! A no-judgement, belly-laughs, pushes me to do new things kind of friendship.

I got a chance to be promoted. And it would have led to me relocating. (Spoiler alert: it didn't work out, and it was a good thing.)

The breakup, part II. This time it was for good.

I chopped my hair to my shoulders - a big step for me. I love(d) it! It felt so much fresher, more age-appropriate.

I helped open a new store in the market - again, incredibly cool. It was a good time for exposure for me and I built a good reputation for myself with a lot of people in the market.

I led a couple of roll outs at my store. So weird. So incredible.

After a couple of grasps at a promotion, a spot in the market finally opened up. Eek!

I switched stores, going from a sales associate to a keyholder/operations manager. Full time but a 45-60 minute drive from home. Coffee. Lots of coffee.

Gramps got really sick. Really, really, stay-in-the-hospital, we-might-lose-him sick. He pulled out of it though and is doing well as of now!

I became an espresso addict. I actually crave espresso in the afternoons. Not coffee, espresso. Yikes?

I, for the most part, have cut out fast food from my diet. I rarely go to McDonald's, Wendy's, Taco Bell, etc. anymore. It helps that I don't have any incredibly close to me during the day or on the way home. If I'm going to stop, it's going to be because I can go inside my house and crawl into pajamas, not to get an unsatisfying cheeseburger.

I have also really, really cut back on drinking soda. My goal at the beginning of 2014 was to not drink soda ever, but if I want one I don't beat myself up over it. It's a couple of times a month and I try to only drink a can of Coke if I'm going to do it. I'm proud of myself for doing this!

I've become very attuned to how different foods make my body feel. On days off, if I make mac and cheese for lunch, I can just feel my body slowing down until I cannot resist a nap. If I try to make a cleaner, more healthy meal I feel way better! This is going to be one of my focuses in 2015.

Once I got promoted, I started going to bed earlier and waking up early, even on days off. It feels good!

I cut back on drinking, a lot. One glass of anything doesn't do much for me, so I just don't bother with it. I mostly drink on special occasions now (going out counts as a special occasion because it's such a rarity, ha!) and I've gotten a lot better at cutting myself off.

Around Thanksgiving I became incredibly aware of a few things. One, I have a great relationship with my sister these days and I'm so thankful for that. Two, that I am so grateful for the way I was raised, even if I hated it some days. The place that I work... it is incredible. I have seen thirteen year olds throw temper tantrums in my store because their moms told them they couldn't have everything they wanted from the store... I am grateful that my parents spent money on my education instead of buying a giant house in a ritzy suburb, that I got to go on educational vacations instead of trips to Mexico where binge-drinking was the main activity, that I got a job when I did. Third, my grandparents are getting old. Very old. And it's hard to spend time with them because of that, which I resent myself for saying. The next few years are going to be difficult.

I had a great night out (dinner, drinks, dancing!) with some friends that I haven't seen in a couple of months. It was great. I'm still laughing about that night.

I was a bit of a scrooge this Christmas. Working really sucked the spirit out of me, for many reasons. This year was difficult because more than ever, I saw people doing ridiculous things just to spend less money on their loved ones. It really brought me down. I only put up a Christmas tree in my room this year - I didn't have it in me to do anything else. The holiday itself really just ended up being a 24 hour reprieve from work.

Christmas gift wise, I am incredibly grateful for everything that I got. Since I am spending money on clothes for myself all year long, I wanted to check a few things off my shopping list: new sheets, a supply of my favorite bath products, some DVD's, and PJ's. I got all that and then some - thank you family and friends! Knowing I have all of these things to use on a daily basis without worrying about them or needing to go out and buy them is a great luxury, and I think of my gift-givers on a daily basis!

I spent New Year's Eve off of social media (the BEST), having dinner with my family, and then a low-key night with a couple of friends. It was perfect.

Kate Spade Surprise Sale!

Happy Wednesday!

Kate Spade is having a surprise sale (from now until Thursday, August 14th, at 11:59 PM PT!) and there are some really great staples on sale! There is something for everyone, from wallets to purses to jewelry to baby bags to clothes and shoes.

I've selected four of my favorite items from the sale (believe me, there were many!) and showed how I would style them below.

Kate Spade Surprise Sale!

I am loving the croissant change purse! I'm tempted to buy it to toss in my bag to hold jewelry that I take off at the end of my day before I drive home. I'm also loving the floral sneakers, but since I've been looking to buy a pair of New Balance sneakers I might (keyword: might) hold off...

I'm heading to the outlet mall with my sister today to do some last minute back-to-school shopping for her! I will try to update on Friday with what I bought!

Sweet Treats: Pie Crust S'Mores

Happy weekend!

Ummmmm, hi. How delicious do these look??? I am a huge fan of s'mores but since I don't have a fire pit or anything, well... it just isn't the same when you try to make them on the grill or in the oven. However, I'm pretty sure these would be amazing any way you make them. Yum. Check out the recipe on Just A Taste

Have a wonderful weekend!

What I'm Loving Right Now: Lariat Necklaces

Happy Wednesday!

Lately I have found myself straying from huge statement jewelry and preferring simpler, more delicate pieces. I've been loving long pendants and tassel necklaces, but I am craving the look of layers upon layers of dainty necklaces! I am loving y-shaped lariat necklaces because they combine both of my current loves - dainty and delicate jewelry with longer necklaces.

I have a few necklaces saved on Etsy, now it's just a matter of picking one and completing the order. Here's some of the images I've been loving as inspiration! My favorites just have the necklaces paired with a casual tee - so easy and cool!

So, tell me - do you have a necklace like this? Do you have one on your shopping list? Are you on board with the trend?

Recent OOTD's

Happy Wednesday everyone!

Lately I have been really into Polyvore - I used to post outfits almost every day but I fell out of the habit since I graduated college and only posted once in a blue moon. I've been playing around with different social media sites lately (Polyvore, Tumblr, and Instagram) and have really gotten the blogging itch back! Here's some of my recent outfits - not sure if  I should keep the dates on the images or remove them... thoughts?

You can click on the link below each set to find out where the pieces from each outfit are from! Feel free to follow me on Polyvore (click HERE) or to pin these images!

OOTD: Sister Lunch & Shopping

I would really like to post "real" outfit photos one day but I don't feel comfortable in front of a camera nor do I have all of the photography skills and tools on hand to achieve the images I would want to produce. Guess I should play around with my camera instead of social media sites, huh?! If you have any tips for beginners please let me know!

Festive for the Fourth

Hi everyone!

Happy Fourth of July to everyone in America and Happy Friday to everyone outside of the U.S.! I hope everyone is having a great day and has plans for a great weekend.

I have to work this evening, so I planned a patriotic outfit for work and a bottoms swap to go watch fireworks with my family! We got a pass to go to a local fireworks show and Fourth of July "festival" so it's going to be a little different than our backyard barbecue and driveway fireworks watching!

Festive for the Fourth

I recently tried the fluted skirt and I absolutely LOVE it! I can't wait to wear it, and it looks great with the striped sweatshirt! I might actually have to wear jeans at night though - it's been very cool for the past few days. Sweatshirts in July, how weird.
Have a safe and Happy Fourth and a great weekend!

J. Crew Sale Picks: Fall Basics for Less

Happy Friday!

Summer might just be kicking off, but some of the amazing deals in stores right now won't be around when temps start to cool off. J. Crew currently has amazing deals (especially in store - 40%-50% off sale items!) and so many of the items in the sale section are perfect to pick up for fall on the cheap.

More money for iced coffees, I say!

Here are my picks for some pre-fall shopping:

J. Crew Sale Picks: Fall Basics for Less

New Schoolboy blazer in navy or black - If you are looking for a classic blazer, this is the one to get! The Schoolboy is a J. Crew classic and it is perfect for mixing and matching with business casual wear, adding some polish to jeans, or wearing as a jacket on a night out with the girls. I love the slightly longer length on this one; it has a much more slimming, tailored look than the original (more cropped) Schoolboy. Check out your local store for this one, it will be a much better deal in store!

Merino zip-shoulder sweater - This sweater is a great piece to wear with jeans or with dress pants/skirt! I love that this one is a little bit boxy and that you can add a scarf for a different look. It's currently available in several color options and is only $20 after the additional percent off sale!

Fluted skirt in double crepe - Ahhh, this deal is probably my favorite. Honestly, I did not think this skirt was for me until a couple a days ago! I've been slowly losing weight and wasn't able to make this skirt work a couple of months ago; I tried it on a whim earlier this week and bought FOUR COLORS that day. This is a great day to day skirt but it's also fabulous for wearing on a night out - the fluted shape is so flirty and fun! $30 after discount + 8 available colors = must have

(Krista from Covering the Bases has this skirt in every color - check out her blog for some styling ideas! Carly from The College Prepster is also a huge fan!)

Andie chino (available in petite, regular, and tall!) - A great alternative to jeans, the Andie is a slim fitting chino pant. Tons of colors are available and these are a total steal in stores! Psst... see a color you like but it isn't in store? Have an associate order it for you AND get the in store price! My favorite color is the safari fatigue color - so versatile!

Merino triple stripe sweater - Stripes are a wardrobe essential for me, and I love this ivory/tan iteration! Plus - elbow patches. Another slightly boxy sweater, this one looks great on its own or layered over a button up. Perfect with jeans and cognac riding boots!

Flower bud tassel necklace - This necklace just got marked down in my store and now that it did, I am obsessed. I think this is a really elegant and unique necklace that will work for a lot of different occasions.

Houndstooth baseball cap - I am a baseball cap freak (no, really... I keep having to upgrade to a bigger bin for all of them. Oops.) and this one is really fun for fall. I would pair it with my green fatigue jacket but it would be great with a black outfit as well. We all have those days where a hat is necessary.... why not make it this statement cap? It clocks in at about $14 online.

Size zip varsity dress - This knit dress is a great basic. I think this one is great with flip flops, a chic pair of sneakers, or even boots as we look ahead to fall!

Minnie pants in stretch twill - These were the unofficial uniform of my sorority for our weekly chapter meetings. At first only a few women had them but they looked so good with everything we all ended up buying a pair... plus they are incredibly comfy! Pro tip: these will stretch out as you wear them so buy them snug. Sounds scary but you will be so glad you did! I know from experience. These are a great deal online but are also on promotion (some colors) or on sale (in other "seasonal" colors) in stores.

The Downtown Field Jacket - This water-resistant is a chic staple for women everywhere. It's a little bit pricey but is well worth it - it goes with everything! Dresses, skirts, jeans, leggings and a baseball cap.... This is a great deal online -$128 with an additional 30% off - doesn't get much cheaper than that (it's another classic J. Crew piece that never gets marked down). Available in dark olive green (a.k.a "mossy brown"), navy, and black.

Embroidered button top - I have this top and LOVE it! It's my ideal peasant top - the white on white embroidery is timeless and seasonless. I think this one is great for the summertime but I plan on wearing it with jeans and boots this fall too.

If you are heading to a store this weekend, be sure to keep in mind that you can order anything that you don't see in store right there in the store! That means if you have been checking out something in the sale section but don't see your size in store, you can have it ordered and still get the in store price but have it sent straight to you instead of going from store to store! LOVE that about J. Crew!

What are your pre-fall shopping picks? Or are you not even thinking about fall yet?! Honestly, I don't blame you.... it has been so hot and humid this week! Thinking cool thoughts helps though, right?!

Enjoy your weekend!

May Instagrams

Happy Monday everyone!

I hope you all had a relaxing weekend. I did and it was a welcome break from a busy back end of the month. A wedding, new responsibilities at work, a fabulous roll out, my sister coming home for the summer, and a few wonderful days with my boyfriend!

I've compiled my Instagrams from the month to show what I have been up to! They are just a small snapshot of my day but most of the time I prefer to be a passive Instagrammer as opposed to an active (or overly active) one! I feel like I really upped my 'grammin game this month - what do you think of my latest Instagrams? Follow along by clicking any of the photos below or finding me in the app - @leopardspot!

Twenty Three

Today is my birthday.

via Joy The Baker

I'll be honest - I don't like my birthday. I really don't like being the center of attention for something I didn't really do (let's be real, we should be celebrating my mother). Designing great t-shirts for my sorority, yes I can be the center of attention for that. Doing a killer job in a roll out, yes I can be the center of attention (well, not really because roll out takes a village) for that too. Just existing? Not my thing.

This year is kind of stinky especially because I'm living at home (no friends around), the weather is disgusting (um, it's snowing in April. What?), and because I have had a rough couple of weeks. I am not in the mood to celebrate at all and it's not like anything special is happening today. I was thinking about what I would want my ideal birthday to be and honestly, I would love a whole spa day. Massage, mani/pedi, a haircut/blowout, a face mask.... they all sound pretty ideal. Today, on the other hand, has just felt like another day with a ton of things I just have to do. Plus I work tomorrow and everyone will have all of these high expectations of what I did on my birthday and I didn't even get to get the pedicure I planned on getting. Bleh.

I wish I could have a cute, blog "worthy", Glitter Guide-style birthday, but it just isn't for me I guess. I wouldn't be opposed to trying it one year though......

Birthday Wishes

Hi everyone!

Since it's April (whattt!?!), that means my birthday is coming up in less than two weeks! I created a Pinterest board to keep track of my birthday wishes and today I'm sharing it here.

Notable on my birthday wish list:
A monogram necklace (I've wanted one for years now and figured now is good as time as any!)
An XL curling wand (I love my current curlng wand but want something bigger for beachy waves).
Some BaubleBar jewels (I have been loving statement earrings lately!)

First Day of Spring Inspiration

Hi!

Today is the first day of spring, and it started off incredibly dreary and snowy. I was in a grumpy mood all morning until I left work and it was sunny and warm enough (47 degrees!!) to go without a coat. I was browsing the internet with an iced latte I purchased without feeling weird about (am I the only one who drinks iced drinks year round?) and came across the adorable pajamas from Aerie below!

First Day of Spring Inspiration

I think these PJs are so cute! They have it all - a color palette I am currently obsessed with, a flower detail, and some bright embroidery. They look perfect for lounging around with coffee on a Saturday morning!
I have been obsessed with pajamas lately - it's becoming a serious addiction. I regularly have to stop myself from buying a new pair of PJ shorts! I'm looking for some cute new ones for spring at a price that won't break the bank. Where do you like to get your PJs?

Inspired By: Miss Congeniality

Happy Monday!

Something I never seem to have is a new movie to watch. I end up watching the same movies over and over and over again.... and while I love them, sometimes I need something new! On a recent Target run, I picked up a copy of a classic:

I couldn't go wrong with Miss Congeniality, especially when it was Miss Congeniality + Miss Congeniality 2 for $9.99! I've watched both in the past week and I forgot how funny they are. Plus, Sandra Bullock is gorgeous on top of all that funny.

Sandy, does that dress come in my size?? Seriously, that dress would still be perfection today. #hot

Anyways, while I was watching, I got to thinking about what Gracie wore during the movies and how her wardrobe still looked good in 2014. Let's be real, Gracie would have preferred her donuts not to be screen printed on her t-shirt and we know she was always craving a Starbucks venti iced caramel macchiato (and a punch or two), but it's fun to envision what would be in her apartment if Gracie was your BFF in 2014.

starbucks // NYC tank // stouffer's // ray-ban aviators // white shirt // boxing gloves

Essentials: a doughnut tee to curb those doughnut cravings, a knockout bandage dress and stillettos, a tangle of polished pearls, Moroccan oil + a hairbrush for appearances, Starbucks because obviously, boxing gloves and a NYC tank for seat sessions at the FBI headquarters, Stouffer's frozen meals because they're fast and delicious, and of course Ray-Ban aviators and a white shirt for when you mean business.

And with this, I wish you all a happy Monday. Only five days till Friday!

2014 Thus Far

Hi everyone.

So it has been a looooooong time since I've posted on here.... and it has taken a while for the urge to blog to return.

Originally I planned to resume blogging after the craziness of the holiday season had ended and I wasn't working 7 days a week for 10 hours a day.

Then New Year's hit, and well.... everything sort of hit the fan. My grampa had to go to the hospital because of a skin infection. Then my gramma fell, broke her hip, and had hip replacement surgery. And in the middle of that, my grampa has had arthritis flare-up and heart problems. So for the past six weeks my family has been taking care of my grampa at his house and my gramma at the nursing home. The good news is my gramma is back at home and doing well physically. The hard part now is the adjusting, for my grandparents and the rest of my family as well.

It has not been easy.

And trying to be light and happy and wanting to write about pretty things.... that has been the last thing I have wanted to do. It hasn't been the last thing on my mind, in fact I have been thinking about it a lot. For the past couple of weeks I have really felt the urge to blog again, to write about something that excites me, to write about something that I think is beautiful or a great deal.

So, I am going to ease back into this blogging thing again. I have recipes I want to share, DIY-s I want to post, and new ideas for leopardspot. I really hope to work towards my ultimate goal for this little bit of the internet. Fingers crossed.

Beautiful People (Pro Infirmis Video)

Happy Monday everyone!

I saw this video on my Facebook feed over the weekend and it brought me to tears. As someone who works in retail (and of course, with mannequins) and someone who is not shaped like a "perfect" mannequin (I am a size 12 which is a far cry from the size 4's I put on mannequins) this was really beautiful. I might wear sizes that are larger than what a store mannequin would wear but I can still identify with their body shape; other people don't even have that. Seeing the faces of the models for the mannequins as they were revealed just..... did me in. See for yourself in the video below.

Have a wonderful Monday, and don't forget to love your body - it truly is beautiful no matter what shape or size.

December Inspiration

Happy Weekend!

source (daria daria)

I came across this image from Pinterest last night and fell in love. I've just been feeling really meh lately (a combination of working too much and then being exhausted as well as physically feeling... off) and this image really gets me inspired. I've been struggling with "festive" outfits for work and for some reason her red lip really makes me want to dress "holiday"! I'm also in desperate need of a hair cut (just a trim - my hair needs movement and I was super happy with it when it was an inch shorter!) and her hair looks so fabulous I just need to schedule an appointment ASAP.

On a related note, for a gal who was loving long long hair, I am unbelieveably happy with my hair short. Even when I wear it the same way several days in a row, it always manages to look fresh. Sometimes I miss long hair, but I feel like I am more willing to try new things (different parts, new curling techniques, etc) with my hair short.

Also: I am really contemplating going ombre! It wouldn't be now but I think I'll ask my hairstylist about it when I am getting my hair cut and do some more thinking. With short hair, if I end up hating it it will be a lot easier to change than if my hair was down to the middle of my back. How did I have such long hair for so long? I can't fathom how I did it.

What is inspiring you this weekend?

A Golden Holiday (Holiday Gift Guide)

Hi everyone!

Hope your week is going well! Now that Thanksgiving, Black Friday, and Cyber Monday have passed, it's really time to start crossing gifts off your list!

Something I have been loving lately is gold. There are so many great golden goodies out there and I'm loving adding gold into my wardrobe and my decor. I've selected some of my favorite golden goodies for you so you can be giving the gift of gold this holiday season!

Worrying about what to give? I've included several options at several price points. There's big, luxurious items (that gorgeous J.Crew necklace!) as well as smaller gifts for your girlfriends (glam cosmetic pouches from Forever 21... add a Starbucks card and you're set!) and home decor accents that are perfect for a hostess (the Kate Spade candle!).

Golden Holiday
What are you loving from this gift guide, whether it be to give or to get? Let me know!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Hi everyone!

I hope everyone has had a great Thanksgiving! I know I did - finally did some major work in my room, a delicious meal cooked by my mom, and a relaxing evening getting into the Christmas spirit with Christmas Vacation (a Thanksgiving tradition!).

Here's what I'm thankful for this year:

My family, boyfriend, and friends!

My relationship with my boyfriend - long distance is not easy but it will be worth it (when we are finally together together)!

Being able to move back home after graduation (despite how much I did not want to originally) and not have to pay rent or for a car/gas/insurance.

Having a job with a company I am passionate about and working with great people!

Getting a good amount of hours at said job because I am a hard worker, talented, and willing to help out the team by staying late/coming early.

Getting the opportunity to do some new projects at work and .... not at work? i.e., helping out my boyfriend's mom at antique shows.

The health of myself, my family, and friends. We're not perfect nor perfectly healthy, but we are all working to make ourselves better and healthier!

That I have a good relationship with my sister.

All of my readers and followers, here and on Tumblr, Pinterest, Instagram, and Twitter.

All of the knowledge I have gained in the past year, both in school and out. Also, that I graduated from a wonderful university!

I'm at a good place right now. I'm really going to try to stay here instead of letting myself get down like I am prone to doing..... Thank goodness for the amazing support system I have in my family, boyfriend, friends, and coworkers!

What are you thankful for today?

Happy Thanksgiving!

Holiday Gift Guide!

Hi everyone!

I apologize for my absence - yet again I have gotten busy and put many things on the back burner! Hopefully this post will make up for my absence....

As Thanksgiving approaches, so does the rush to start shopping. At my job, we've been prepping ourselves, the store, and our customers for the holidays since the middle of October - we know what the big sellers are and what customers come to the store to buy every winter season and always advise people to pick up goodies early while we have everything in stock! Makes life easier for you and for us! I've been thinking about gifts for so, so long and I am excited to introduce my first post in my Holiday Gift Guide series! I will be posting every Thursday from now until the end of the holiday season so be sure to stay tuned!

I will be focusing on different occasions and "people" in the coming weeks, but today I want to share something that I am personally loving and know would be a great gift for any woman: cold weather accessories.

holiday gift guide: cold weather accessories

I'm personally all about this combination gift for customers that come into my store. As a Chicagoan (and recent Madisonian), I can always say that a new hat, scarf, or set of gloves is a welcome and necessary addition to a wardrobe. What sets this set below apart from others is two things: first, the pattern (love!) and second, the functionality. The solid gray gloves up there? They have tech-friendly fingertips, so using your smart phone or tablet is a breeze. In an age where almost everyone has a smart phone or a tablet they're using while commuting or walking to class, these are a serious upgrade!

Another thing I love about this gift idea is that you can break up these pieces and wear them together or separately, indoors or out! The scarf is a perfect layering piece for college students and the fingerless gloves are also great for layering with a longsleeve and keeping your hands warm (and fingers free!) while using a computer, tablet, or writing. The neutral gray and white color palette I've featured here also goes with pretty much any color outerwear, so it works for just about anyone!

Check out J.Crew for tons of fabulous cold weather accessories (cashmere! leather! patterns!) in solids and patterns and in the perfect color for everyone, and stay tuned for next week's Holiday Gift Guide!

Friday Favorite

Hi everyone!

Happy Friday! Just wanted to share with you guys a music video for a song I've really been loving - "Stay the Night" by Zedd featuring Hayley Williams. I have loved Hayley Williams for yeeeeears! I think she has the most amazing voice so it's a given that I would love this song too.

On top of loving the song itself, I am loving the music video. I love the effects and in particular the dancing! The dancers and the choreography convey so much emotion and make everything they do look so flawless and easy (which, as a dancer, I know is not!). Check it out below!

I could only imagine the kinds of bruises I would have if I even attempted to do some of those dance moves. I'll leave it to the professionals. Ouch.

Have a great rest of your day and an awesome weekend! I'm going to spend mine working.... and getting some content ready for the next few weeks!
